Concerned about the future of the family in Tennessee and the growing negative impact of public policies on the family, in 2006 a group of Tennesseans came together to form the legislative arm of The Family Action Council of Tennessee (FACT). This legislative arm is Family Action of Tennessee.

David Fowler, then in his twelfth year in the Tennessee Senate and a practicing attorney, was hired to become the first President of Family Action of Tennessee.

about2We are organized under the laws of Tennessee and section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code and we are governed by a volunteer board of directors from across the state.

Our sister organization, the IRS-designated 501(c )(3) Family Action Council of Tennessee, Inc. (FACT), is the tax-exempt educational arm of Family Action of Tennessee. Because FACT is a tax-exempt educational group, the IRS can limit what FACT can say about legislation and candidates.

That’s why we have our advocacy arm, Family Action of Tennessee, which is not tax-exempt, so that we can speak more freely. Those who give to Family Action of Tennessee won’t be able to deduct their contributions for state or federal income tax purposes, but they will have a passionate advocacy group on their side. Between these two organizations, we educate and inspire Tennesseans to greater involvement in the issues that support the well-being of our state.

Why We Focus on the Family

Our focus is on the family, because we believe marriage and family are the portal through which all future generations must pass. A strong, vibrant, and healthy future for our citizens is grounded in the strength, vitality, and health of today’s marriages and families. Those two institutions are the cornerstone of any nation, state, or community. As they go, so go those communities of people. As to our other core values, life is our first and foremost right and the second, religious liberty, is fundamental to preserving all other liberties.

Our Belief

Healthy families and communities come about when basic values from the Bible are embraced and upheld. Even those who may not believe everything in the Bible have found it hard to overlook its long track record of providing a foundation for stable societies.

Neglecting commonsense biblical values contributes to many of our nation’s current ills like crime, disease, divorce, “unwanted” pregnancies, teen suicide and academic failure.

Our Mission

Our mission is to transform Tennessee’s policies and laws to protect and preserve life, marriage, families, and religious liberty.

We accomplish this mission through the following strategies:

  • Advocating in Tennessee’s state legislature and local governments for laws that support life, marriage, family, and religious liberty, while opposing laws that undermine these
  • Educating voters through incumbent scorecards for the purpose of holding elected officials accountable and promoting the election of candidates who honor biblical values
  • Utilizing Action Alert emails, websites, print, and other mediums to inform Tennesseans about pending state and local legislation and encourage them to take action
